Trivia! Guess my race! The price is right!

Some years ago I was downtown with my ex. We walked around, ate, shopped (broke and young, so mostly windowshopping!), being silly and in love. Then, in a shop window, I saw a necklace that I wanted... I would gladly sacrifice one month of delicious food from all the food groups for that necklace, leaving me with nudles and a kiwi a day for one month. At least!
So we went into the store. We looked around, and me ex asked how much it was. Mind you, I didn't hear my ex asking! Then I asked for the price and the "countress" told me a completely, much higher price. We ended up not buying anything at all. But I have some questions! Did they tell my ex and me different prices because of our races? Did the girl in the shop tell me a higher price because she assumed me being a girl I would pay a lot more for it? Was she just mistaken? Was my ex mistaken? (which I don't think because he was just a satan with numbers!)
The price is just soooooooooo right!!
